Another industrial tax exemption program (ITEP) will be considered by the Calcasieu Parish School Board at the regular CPSB meeting tonight.

The proposed ITEP is for Lotte Chemical Louisiana, LLC, a chemical plant on the Bayou D’Indie Pass in Westlake that produces MonoEthylene Glycol and by-products, DEG, TEG and HEG.

The company is requesting an 80 percent exemption on property taxes for a ten-year period. The estimated amount of forgone revenue for CPSB over a ten-year period is $180,349.

The project would create two direct jobs with a combined annual salary of $120,000, as well as five construction jobs.

Also at the meeting, CPSB will be voting to approve three cooperative endeavor agreements for the towns of Iowa and Vinton and the City of Westlake.

The approval of these agreements would place school resource officers (SRO) on each of the school campuses for the upcoming school year.

These agreements would place town and city law enforcement officers on the respective school campuses. CPSB stated that in the past, SROs have only been provided by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

CPSB will also be considering a maintenance fleet leasing program in partnership with Enterprise, in which CPSB would lease 16 vehicles. According to Enterprises’ proposal, 58 percent of CPSB’s current fleet is over ten years old, leading to higher fuel and maintenance costs; the partnership would reduce maintenance costs by 30 percent.

In addition, the board is scheduled to accept the resignation of Mack Dellafosse as a director of Louisiana Local Government Environmental Facilities and Community Development Authority – effective June 22, 2023 – and discuss options to fill the role of Director of the Authority, approve the Pupil Progression Plan Committee of Parents and Committee of Educators, consider the purchase of land near Sulphur High School and approve an auction of surplus vehicles from the Transportation Department, to take place on September 16.
