WEATHER UPDATE: Increased risk of severe weather tonight

An increased risk for severe weather is expected this evening and throughout the day on Monday.

The National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office said the risk for heavy rainfall and possible flooding has been increasing for later today. The rain is expected to continue into Monday

Expect rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches, with localized heavier amounts, the agency said.

A flash flood watch has been issued for portions of the area this evening through Monday evening

A strong pressure gradient moving into the area is expected to bring sustained winds of 15-25 mph and wind guests up to 40 mph.

A small craft advisory is in place until 1 p.m. Monday for coastal waters, lakes and bays. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions, the agency said.
