FORT POLK (AP) — The non-commissioned officer of the year and the soldier of the year have been named after a competition at Fort Polk.

Staff Sgt. Matthew J. Schnell was named noncommissioned officer of the year.

Specialist In Hyok Tong was selected soldier of the year at Fort Polk.

The Town Talk of Alexandria reported Saturday that the two earned the honors through a three-day competition at the Army base.

Schnell is assigned to the 814th Engineer Company.

Tong is a rifleman in the 162nd Infantry Brigade.
