Zane Keith Long, 54, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, (Zane’s favorite holiday) with his family at his bedside. He was then welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and those family members who preceded him in death.

Zane was born on March 10, 1970 in Lake Charles, La., to William “Bill” Long and the late Mary “Vickie” McGough Long. Zane attended Saint Louis Catholic High School, graduating in 1988. He attended McNeese State University, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management, and worked as a Commercial Construction Project Manager.

The literal meaning of Zane is “Gift from God,” and he lived his life true to those words. Zane spent many years building relationships throughout Southwest Louisiana, never truly knowing the impact he had on others. He was always willing to do anything he could to help and expected nothing in return. Zane never realized while working on countless commercial construction projects that he was making an impact on each life he encountered. His day-to-day life was about “the end” meaning, getting home to his family. Some would say his life was his next project, but really his life was about walking out the door from work, getting into his truck and driving to be with his family. He lived and worked within his Moss Bluff community and was heard many times saying, “I worked my whole life to be less than five miles from my home and family.”

He loved the outdoors except for yard work. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all loved being with his wife, his children, and family. You always knew where to find him around 11:30 a.m., home for lunch and playing with his black labradoodle, Miss Caroline, the dog he told his wife he didn’t want but apparently needed. Zane spent the last four falls sitting in the bleachers watching his son, Conner, on the football field. Even to the very end, Zane fought with dignity and grace, never losing his good nature spirit.

Those left to cherish his memory are, his beloved wife, Helen Elizabeth “Liz” Butts Long; his children, Conner Zane Long, Miranda Elizabeth Long, and Breanna Nicole Bourque; his father, Bill Long; his Uncle, Bruce (Debbie) Long, and his Uncle, James “Jim” McGough, who was like a brother to him; his two aunts, Pamela McGough and Cindy (Michael) McGough O’Rourke.

Zane was preceded in death by his mother, Vickie McGough Long; his maternal grandparents, J. Leo and Mary Faucett McGough; his paternal grandparents, Cedric “C.M.” and Betty Miller Long.

His funeral, a Celebration of Life, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff Chapel, located at 2171 US HWY 171 NORTH. Pastor Richard Gill and Rev. Alvin Smith will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 1 p.m. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A family Inurnment will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers are Scott Long, Matt Long, Jase McGough, Michael Colin O’Rourke, Pat Sewells, Garrett Lemoine, Wyatt Manchester, Kyle Ogea, and his three lovely ladies, Mallory McGough, Mary Katherine O’Rourke, and Margaret Anne O’Rourke.

The family would like to give special thanks to Lake Area Electric, Mr. Andy Benoit, Mr. Tommy Buckner, the Oncology Nurses on 2-Tower, and all medical staff that assisted in his care at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.
