A large spring-time storm system is approaching Southwest Louisiana from the west, bringing with it cooler temperatures and potential severe weather.

National Weather Service Lake Charles Storm Warning Coordinator Doug Cramer said the storm is going to slowly progress into the area most of today.

He said the area has the highest probability of experiencing severe thunderstorms from about 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cramer said all modes of severe weather are possible with this low-pressure system, which is aligned with a Pacific cold front.

“The primary threats are damaging wind gusts,” he said.

When this storm passes through, Cramer said the area shouldn’t experience any more rainfall the rest of the week.

“But chances strongly favor above-normal temperatures as we get into April,” he said.
