Hundreds of Southwest Louisiana residents recycled their unwanted electronics during the annual Citgo E-Recycle Day. Organized by the Citgo Lake Charles Refinery, this event was successful with support from partners including Hine Environmental Services, the Lake Charles Event Center, Ward 3 Marshal’s Office and city of Lake Charles Wastewater Division.

Residents seized the opportunity to responsibly dispose of their unwanted electronics, free of charge. Items collected included computers, printers, fax machines, TVs, sound equipment, landline and cell phones, tablets, gaming consoles and more. The event saw a steady stream of nearly 800 vehicles, with collections filling eight extra-large roll-off boxes—equivalent to 12 semitrailers. Notably, participants recycled 727 light bulbs and several items containing mercury.

“We have hosted this event for 16 years and collected more than 560 tons of electronic waste in an effort to promote environmental consciousness and responsible waste disposal,” said Sterling Neblett, Citgo Lake Charles vice president and general manager. “We are pleased this event continues to encourage our friends and neighbors to recycle their old electronics and prevent hazardous materials from ending up in landfills.”
