Baylor honors area students

WACO, Texas — Several Southwest Louisiana students were among more than 5,400 Baylor University students have been named to the fall 2023 dean’s academic honor list, which recognizes Baylor undergraduates for their outstanding academic work during each semester.

The are Hannah Comeaux, Camille Karriker, Andrew Price, Vean Rademeyer, Hannah Shimer and Nicholas Wolf, all of Lake Charles; and Bryce Polak and Alyssa Vining, both of Sulphur.

Students honored on the dean’s list earned a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.70 with no grade lower than a “C” while enrolled in at least 12 graded semester hours.

Hamilton named to honor roll

LARAMIE, Wyo. — William Hamilton of Lake Charles has been naed to the fall semester provost’s honor roll at The University of Wyoming.

The provost’s honor roll consists of undergraduates who have completed at least six but fewer than 12 hours with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.

The University of Wyoming provides quality undergraduate and graduate programs to 10,913 students.

Local students earn degrees

FAYETTE, Iowa — Three DeRidder students were among graduates recognized recently during commencement ceremonies at Upper Iowa University.

They are McCary Coleman, Regina Edwards and Louis Levesque.

Founded in 1857, Upper Iowa University is a private, nonprofit university providing undergraduate and graduate degree programs to roughly 5,500 students-nationally and internationally-at its Fayette campus, and education centers through the U.S.

Two finalists for student of year

BATON ROUGE — Two area students have been named Student of Year finalists for the state of Louisiana.

Adeline Reddit of South Beauregard Upper Elementary in Beauregard Parish is  a finalist for the elementary division.

Hyacinth William of Welsh-Roanoke Jr. High  in Jeff Davis Parish is a finalist in the middle school division.

“Congratulations to each of these young leaders. This honor is a testament to their commitment to academic excellence,” said Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “As we celebrate the achievement of these remarkable students, we also recognize the unwavering support of their parents and educators.”

Finalists will convene April 10 at the River Center Branch Library in Baton Rouge for an awards ceremony and the announcement of the Louisiana Students of the Year winners from each grade.
