A win is all the McNeese State women’s basketball team needs. A win in any way shape or form will go a long way in curing a lot of ills.

The last-place Cowgirls (4-18, 0-9 Southland Conference) will visit first-place Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. Saturday trying to end an 11-game losing streak, win their first road game in eight tries, beat a Division I team for the first time this season and register their first conference victory.

The Cowgirls, who have lost 14 of their last 14 games, are coming off a 94-70 home loss to Texas-Commerce on Thursday. Emilia Tenbrock scored a team-high 20 points while getting career highs from Boston Berry (17) and Clara Rosini (10). Julie Puenta grabbed 10 rebounds.

McNeese is second in the conference at scoring at 66.5 points game, led by Tenbrock’s SLC-best 15.6 points per game. The problem is the Cowgirls allow 81.5 points per game.

Tenbrock has scored in double figures in 13 of the last 15 games.

Mireia, the Cowgirls’ second-leading scorer at 10.3 points per game, was limited to seven against Commerce. She’s scored in double figures once in the last five games.

Four of Commerce’s five starters scored in double figures.

The Cowgirls almost beat Southeastern Louisiana in the first meeting, a 77-63 overtime loss on Jan. 13 in Lake Charles. The Lions (12-8, 8-1) have dominated McNeese in recent years, winning eight of the last nine meetings, including the last six, since the 2019-20 season.

The Lions, the reigning SLC champions, have won eight of their last nine games, including a 93-86 triple-overtime home win against Incarnate Word on Thursday.

SLU is led in scoring by Hailey Giaratano (13 ppg)
