The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its first draft of the proposed districts for the next two school years, and there are major changes affecting local schools.

In the last two school years, Southwest Louisiana Class 2A schools were spread across two districts, but the recent draft spreads them out further into three districts.

Districts 5-2A and 4-2A will swap several schools, while two — Lake Arthur and Welsh — will be grouped with powerhouse Lafayette Christian, Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy, Notre Dame and Midland (non-football) in District 6-2A.

DeQuincy, East Beauregard, which moved up from Class 1A, Pickering, Rosepine and Vinton would make up District 4-2A, while District 5-2A would consist of Avoyelles, Holy Savior Menard, Kinder, which moved back from Class 3A, Oakdale, Port Barre and Rapides.

With the loss of Iowa to District 3-4A, and Kinder dropping to 2A, District 3-3A will be reduced to five schools: Jennings, Lake Charles College Prep, South Beauregard, St. Louis Catholic and Westlake.

Iowa will join DeRidder, Eunice, LaGrange, Leesville and Washington-Marion in 3-4A.

District 3-5A and 5-1A will be mostly the same, other than each will lose one team with Comeaux dropping to 4A and Gueydan moving to District 6-1A.

In Class C, area schools will go from one district to two. Hackberry, Johnson Bayou and South Cameron will be joined by V.B. Glencoe Charter (Franklin) in District 6-C, while 5-C would be Reeves, Singer, Starks and Northside Christian.

Bell City, Hathaway and Lacassine will stay in District 6-B and are tentatively set to be grouped with Academy of Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau and Episcopal of Acadiana.

District 4-B will have a pair of basketball powerhouses in Anacoco and Fairview grouped with Elizabeth, Hicks and Pitkin.

Schools have until Thursday to submit alternative district alignment, while the next meeting to discuss districts will be Nov. 13.
