Citgo awards scholarships

SULPHUR — The Citgo Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex has continued a 36-year tradition by awarding scholarships to deserving high school graduates who are children of Citgo employees.

Seven high school graduates were selected through an application process based on CITGO scholastic criteria. Scholarship recipients include:

Sydnie Cooley of Lacassine High School, daughter of Manager Operations Excellence Dallas Cooley and Process Engineer Fabiola Nelson

Alyssa Fruge of Sam Houston High School, daughter of Instrument Technician Jason Fruge, Jr.

Malia Hubbard of St. Louis High School, daughter of Unicracker Console Operator Robert Hubbard

MacKenzie Harvey of Washington-Marion High School, daughter of Utilities Group B Operator Val Harvey

John Paul Istre of St. Louis High School, son of Manager Engineering Services Michael Istre

Jessica Savant of Kinder High School, daughter of CATS Maintenance Supervisor Cody Savant.

Soileau selected for R.F. Lewis Scholars program

NATCHITOCHES – Christopher Soileau of Kinder has been selected to represent Northwestern State University in this year’s cohort of the Reginald F. Lewis Scholars Program, an initiative of the University of Louisiana System. The program recruits Black male students and provides educational programs, mentoring opportunities and co-curricular experiences to improve outcomes.   

Soileau is a 2022 graduate of Kinder High School and is a health and exercise science major at NSU. He is the second person in his family to attend college and hopes to one day open a chain of clinics around the country. He cited his father and fellow student Ebenezer Aggrey, who is part of last year’s R.F. Lewis Scholars cohort, as important mentors.

Two named to president’s list

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Two DeRidder students have been named to the Southern New Hampshire University summer 2023 President’s List. They are Kelli Boyer and Kara Young.

Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the president’s list.
