It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Edward Mele, 18, of Lake Charles, announce his unexpected passing as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born on July 26, 2005, and was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, La. He graduated from  Barbe High School and was enjoying his first semester at McNeese State University. His passion for education and mental health struggles led him on a path to study Education and give back to others by becoming a teacher. He valued his time with his many friends and enjoyed having new life adventures, but he also enjoyed staying home with family, playing video games, and snuggling with his cats. His family will miss his wild and adventurous spirit, spontaneous dancing in the living room, and strong-willed nature to walk his own path and live his life to its fullest potential.

He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Jessica Mele and Jared Daniel Mele; sister, Elizabeth Mele; brother, Tyler Mele; grandparents, John Bellard and Patrick and Melissa Mele; great grandmothers, Jan Suydam and Hope Settlemeyer; a host of Aunts, Uncles, and cousins, as well as a multitude of friends he has made along life’s journey.
