John Garner, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 18, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Linda Stanley Garner, and his children Kimberly Finger, Scott Garner and wife Yvette, Alison Blevins and husband Jacob; grandchildren, Will, Cate, Andrew, and John. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister Melba Bandy and husband Frank; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene Garner and Eva Dell Brown Garner; and his sister, Betty Collier.

Born in Winn Parish, he graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches and received his Master of Education degree from McNeese. He spent his entire career at SJ Welsh Middle School where he taught industrial arts and math, then later became assistant principal and principal. After retiring in 1991, he and Linda built a house and cabin in Winn Parish where their children and grandchildren learned to appreciate nature through yearly scavenger hunts through the trails he cut through the woods.

John loved hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking as evidenced by the furniture left to be enjoyed by his family. One of his favorite things was his OFBC breakfast group, his wonderful friends, and their favorite server Tammy. As a family, we are so thankful for the many friendships he enjoyed throughout his life.
