Charlene Ann Babineaux, loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022.
Charlene, born on Aug. 20, 1955, was the daughter of Morgan “Black” and Melba Lois (Richard) Faulk. She was a devout Catholic attending St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, and continuously relied on her faith during her illness.
She served her community while working at Cameron State Bank in Grand Lake. More importantly, she was everyone’s Maw-Maw Chene and loved to support all of the children at Grand Lake school! She spent time as a substitute teacher, and worked with the Cameron Parish Head Start as a bus driver. Her world revolved around her grandchildren, and her greatest joy was attending ALL of their activities. No matter the distance, she would NEVER miss any of their events! She enjoyed dancing with family and friends, and competing in local senior Olympic events.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Melba Lois Faulk.
Left to cherish her wonderful memory is her loving, and devoted husband of 47 years, Joey Babineaux; children, Camille Joseph “Lil Joey” Babineaux Jr. (Lisa), Mitchell Babineaux (Nici), and Cheri Babineaux Compton (Christopher); father, Morgan “Black” Faulk; siblings, Janice Landry (Chris), Mondell Garcia (Raul), Ricky Faulk, Kevin Faulk, Jared Faulk (Beth), Richard Faulk, and Terry Faulk (Monica); grandchildren, Emily, Abby, Chloee, Joey “JoJo”, Layna and Mason Babineaux, Austin and Payton Compton.
Ushering her to her final resting place will be her brothers, Ricky, Kevin, Jared, Richard and Terry Faulk, and her nephew Gavin Faulk. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons JoJo and Mason Babineaux, Austin Compton, and nephew Cayden Faulk.
Funeral service will be held in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, Big Lake on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at 12 p.m. with Monsignor James Gaddy officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Lake Community Cemetery (by the Pontoon bridge) under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin Tuesday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. and will resume Wednesday in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, Big Lake from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
The family is grateful for the kindness and compassion that Sandi Hebert, Veronica Sheridan and the staff of Brighton Bridge Hospice provided during these last few weeks. Also, a special thank you to Charlene’s sister Janice Landry for being by her bedside providing around the clock care whenever it was needed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Charlene’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
