Delmar L. Dolan, 90, of Sulphur, La., passed away at his home on Thursday, Sept. 22.
He was born July 7, 1932, in Filmore, Ill. His parents were Dale and Ann Dolan. He played on a state champion basketball team at Pleasant Plains High School.
He came to Lake Charles in 1951 as one of the first serviceman on the Chenault Air Base. After he honorably served in the U.S. Air Force, he dabbled in building pools, constructing homes and operating the first beach chair rental on the I-10 beach. Del studied pre-law at McNeese State University but pursued an opportunity to start a real estate business. For over five decades, he owned and operated Dolan Real Estate as a highly respected broker and realtor in Calcasieu Parish. Along with his brother Gene, they initiated the country’s first Vietnam Peace Memorial, which later became Veterans Memorial Park in Lake Charles.
He listened to all genres of music and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and bowling. He especially looked forward to family vacations in Gulf Shores, Alabama every summer and loved watching the boats come in at Zeke’s Landing and Marina.
Del became Catholic and served with strong faith as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion for many years at Immaculate Conception Church in Sulphur. He provided a great life with strong faith for his family and instilled the importance of top values and work ethic.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lucille Procell Dolan; three daughters, Candace (Houston), Courtney (Atlanta) and Brenda (Sulphur); one son, Michael (Sulphur); and two granddaughters, Stephanie (Seattle) and Abigail (Atlanta); and a sister, Sharlene Dolan of Springfield, Ill.
