Mary Thornton Wilson

Mary Thornton Wilson, 71, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sept. 16, 2022, after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 6, 1950, in Lake Charles, La., to Gloria and Albert A. Thornton of Lake Charles, La. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Robert Wilson of Vinton, La.
Mary graduated from LaGrange High School and later completed her nursing degree. She worked as an RN until her retirement, at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lake Charles. Mary had a love of dance and took classes as an adult. She loved listening to live music, especially when her close friend Randall was playing and always enjoyed gathering with friends and family. She was artistically talented and enjoyed many crafts including sewing and jewelry making. Mary enjoyed watching television in her downtime and always took time to watch home improvement shows.
Mary adored her granddaughter, Lauren, and she cherished each moment they shared together. She also loved her faithful dog, Tater, who provided her with love and great companionship, especially during her illness.
She leaves to honor her memory, her son, Jeremy (Stephanie) Wilson of Morton Grove, Ill.; granddaughter, Lauren Wilson of Morton Grove, Ill.; two sisters, Gloria Hill of Kingston, Wash., and Carol Thornton of Lake Charles, La.; nieces, April (Rob) Brown of Shoreline, Wash., and Emily (Kris) Larsen of Edwards, Colo.; one nephew, Robert (Kaitlin) Coulson of Lynnwood, Wash.; and a host of wonderful friends that were like family.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at St. Martin de Pores Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Mary can be made in her honor to the American Lung Association at lung.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
