Jimmy Ernest Granger passed away on March 25, 2022 at the age of 80, a day shy of his 81st birthday, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born on March 26, 1941 and raised in the Granger Cove area of Grand Lake. He graduated as valedictorian from Grand Lake High School in 1959 and went on to obtain his degree in mechanical engineering from McNeese State College where he was a member of the ROTC. Jimmy served our country in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in war time for 2 years (1964-1966) in Vietnam. He always took immense pride in being a United States Army Veteran.
Upon his return from the war, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve for another four years and met and married the love of his life, Linda Fontenot Granger. Together they raised two daughters in the Catholic faith they were so devoted to. During his career as a mechanical engineer, he worked for F. Miller and Sons, DW Jessen, Cities Service, and managed SPR sites for DynMcDermott and Boeing Petroleum.
Jimmy enjoyed listening to the oldies and Cajun music, working in his shop and around the yard, date nights with Linda at Casa Manana, and occasional afternoons with her at local casinos. He and Linda were McNeese State University football season ticket holders for over 30 years and enjoyed cheering on their Cowboys. What he found the most delight in was spending time with family. To his children and grandchildren, he was their biggest fan and supporter. He could always make someone smile with his vibrant personality, even on a difficult day. He was a true light in this sometimes-dark world.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Aladin and Eva Granger; two brothers, Clifford Granger and Buddy Granger; and in-laws, Garland and Hazel Fontenot.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Linda Fontenot Granger; two daughters and their spouses, Cindy Granger Dore’ and husband Chad, and Leslie Granger Curol and husband Bryan; four grandchildren, Abigail Dore’, Landon Dore’ and wife Abby, Timothy Curol, and Haley Curol; sister, Juanita Granger Ethridge and husband Lloyd; sisters-in law, Sue Granger and Joyce Granger; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Guardian House, Golden Age of Welsh, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, Heart of Hospice, Dr. Jason Langhofer, and all the caregivers over the last few years for their dedicated and compassionate care of Jimmy.
