LAKE CHARLES – Yvonne Babineaux Key, born in Grand Lake on Sept. 7, 1934, daughter of John and Alida (Cradeur) Babineaux, passed away Jan. 10, 2022, at the age of 87.

Yvonne enjoyed dancing, cooking, and serving others.  She attended LaGrange High School and Sowela Technical College.  She was a professional cook and housekeeper, she served many special guests ranging from family members to prominent people from Dallas, Chicago, and Houston, including Lady Byrd Johnson, Vice-President Dan Quale, and President George Bush Sr. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; and spouses, Roy Wade Hanchey, John C. Key, Lee Boudoin; and a grandson, Brandon DeFries; great-grandchildren, Paityn, Bryker, Jabari, and Taysom Alexander. 

Yvonne is survived by a son, Wade Hanchey (Christine); daughters; Mona Hanchey DeFries (Larry), Kathy Hanchey Derouen (Terry), Ellen Hanchey Fontenot (Darrell Schexnayder), Elaine Hanchey Newman (Robert); sister, Anne Brewer; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.;  and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. 

Pallbearers will be Damon Hanchey, Brent DeFries, Johnathon Fontenot, Daniel Fontenot, Jacob Newman, Judson Derouen; Honorary Pallbearers, Kyler Dartez, Wyatt Fontenot, and Brycen Dartez.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. in Johnson and Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson and Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the funeral home with a Celebration of Life at 6:30 p.m. and will resume Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.
