THREE POINT STANCE: Eagles open district with big road game

Published 9:00 am Tuesday, October 5, 2021

In this edition of the Three Point Stance, Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux preview Week 6 of the high school football season involving area small schools.

What’s the most interesting game on the schedule?

RA: Rosepine at Kinder. Rosepine is coming off its first loss while Kinder is looking to stop a four-game slide since a one-point win over Welsh in Week 1. Kinder will need a repeat of its defensive performance last week — three defensive touchdowns in a two-point loss to Northwest — to try to get a leg up on the Eagles offense that is averaging 46 points a game led by QB Ethan Frey and RB Grant Ducote.

WA: Oakdale at De-Quincy. Two old-school teams will clash in what should be a physical game. Oakdale runs the I formation and feeds running back Cedric Allison, who has run for 100+ yards and scored a touchdown in every game he has played this season. DeQuincy spreads the carries between Reese Ashworth, Taije Ceasar and Hudson Snyder in its veer attack.

RA: Grand Lake senior defensive back Kent Zaunbrecher has been one of many defensive stalwarts for the Hornets’ stingy defense this season. He had a fumble recovery last week that helped Grand Lake bounce back from a 6-0 halftime deficit to Basile. He has scored on a fumble return and reception this season and threw a touchdown pass in Week 1.

WA: East Beauregard QB Issac Humphries makes the most of his few opportunities to pass, with five touchdowns on just six completions. He has thrown a TD pass in every game this season while giving up just one interception.

Name a 2A player to watch.

RA: Rosepine senior Grant Ducote. Despite the Eagles loss to Logansport last week, Ducote continues to be Rosepine go-to player with multiple touchdowns in every game this season. Ducote can break off big runs in a game which will be key to the Eagles if they want to overwhelm Kinder early this week.

Ducote is the top scorer in Southwest La. with 100 points.

WA: Welsh RB Cohen Fontenot has been unstoppable this season, with 902 yards and 13 touchdowns. This week the Greyhounds face a stiff test in Notre Dame, the 8th ranked team in Class 2A. The game is the District 6-2A opener for each team.
