LEESVILLE (AP) — A Vernon Parish inmate who escaped Tuesday from a work detail in the Evans community has been arrested.

Sheriff Sam Craft told the The Town Talk 31-year-old Jody Balach, of Anacoco, was arrested Tuesday night after the sheriff's office received a call from a resident in the community who said Balach had knocked on their door and had talked with him before leaving and walking into some nearby woods.

Craft says Balach was found minutes later by deputies just off La. Highway 111, north of Evans.

He was booked into the Vernon Parish Jail on one count of simple escape.
