Monica Hebert, founder of local art society Art du Lac, noticed a problem while showcasing and trying to sell the works of the artists she represents: Though many people appreciate art for its aesthetic appeal, most do not understand it.

Out of this was born a series of lectures titled “Articulating Art,” which will strive to educate the public on the art masters while comparing their talents to those found in the works of local artists.

The “Articulating Art” talks will be at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month, beginning March 21, in Pujo Street Cafe. Tickets will be $10 each, $15 per couple; they can be reserved at 478-2481.

“When I start to tell people what art is supposed to mean I can see the light bulbs go off in their heads, and I just thought because thousands of us didn’t take any form of art appreciation class in high school or college, that this would be a good way to get people educated on art,” Hebert said.

“I also think that people tend to learn better when information is paired with entertainment, so we’re planning a fun, light-hearted, delightful kind of evening where we can all drink some wine, eat some good food and learn about art together.”

The first installment of “Articulating Art” will focus on comparing and contrasting two local artists — Robin Nicole Jones and Kevin Leveque — as well as point out the inspiration the two found in the works of the masters. The lecture will be given by Terry Holden.
