JENNINGS — A joint investigation by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office and Elderly Protection Service has led to the arrest of a Jennings couple in connection with a cruelty to the infirm abuse case.

George Mundt, 65, and Sylvia Landry. 69, were arrested following a month long investigation by the agencies, according to Chief Criminal Investigator Chris Ivey.

The two were caregivers of the victim who police say was found bruised, malnourished and in poor health.

The investigation began in mid-June after the Elderly Protection Service contacted the Sheriff’s Office in reference to a complaint they had received about an elderly male being abused, Ivey said.

When detectives arrived at the location, they found the 70-year-old male bruised and in very poor health, he said.

The victim was taken to the Jennings American Legion Hospital for treatment where it was found he was also severely malnourished.

Mundt was arrested July 3 and booked into the Jeff Davis Parish Jail where he remains on a $25,000 bond.

Sylvia was arrested Tuesday and booked into the parish jail with bond pending, according to Ivey.””
