Fairview takes top spots on All-Southwest Louisiana Small Schools basketball team

The points and wins came by the bushel at Fairview this season, with the Lady Panthers winning their seventh consecutive state championship, while the boys team reached the quarterfinals of the Class B playoffs.

The Panthers swept all four honors of the American Press All-Southwest Louisiana Small Schools basketball team. Most Valuable Players are Josh Walker and Natasha Morvant, while boys coach Ron Stark and girls coach Kyle Jinks are Coaches of the Year.

Walker scored 22.6 points per game while leading the high-scoring Panthers. He is joined on the first team by Hathaway’s Dylan Augustine, Reeves’ Brennan Bell, DeQuincy’s Marlon Davis and Hamilton Christian’s Isaih Wheeler.

Starks wins the coach’s honor after guiding the Panthers to a 34-4 season and fourth straight trip to the quarterfinal round.

Morvant is girls MVP after scoring 18 points per game. Joining her on the first team are teammate Maghan Cooley, Madyson Brasseaux from state runner-up Lacassine, Elizabeth Guidry from Lake Arthur and Sami Thomas from Pickering, which reached the state semifinals.

Jinks is Coach of the Year after leading Fairview to a 43-1 record. The Lady Panthers’ lone loss came by one point to Class 4A quarterfinalist DeRidder. Fairview avenged that loss with a seven-point win over the Dragons as part of its season ending 28-game winning streak. The Lady Panthers capped off the season in style with a 71-38 win over Lacassine in the championship game.

On the second team are Hayley Guidry and Abbie Melanson of Lacassine, Hannah Miller of Hathaway, Andrea Cournoyer of Merryville and Karli West of Fairview.””
