The Longville man who fatally shot his wife Sunday afternoon has been charged with second-degree murder, authorities said.

Randal Langley, 51, fled the scene and later crashed his vehicle before being hospitalized.

Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Joe Toler said Randal Langley shot 44-year-old Sherry Lynn Langley twice with a rifle at their home at 1687 Longville Road.

Toler said the Langley’s daughter was in the home when the shooting occurred and called 911 at 1:18 p.m.

Randal Langley left the scene before authorities could arrive and later crashed his pick-up truck at 7:15 p.m. Sunday near Neale Oilfield Road.

Merryville police officers found Randal Langley next to a vehicle that was “fully engulfed in flames,” Toler said.

Randal Langley was then transported to Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, and a city police officer was able to make a positive identification.

Langley was treated for his injuries and transported to the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office where he was arrested and processed into the jail facility. Bond was set at $1.75 million.

“We have reason to suspect there were some issues going on — marital issues,” Toler said.

Toler said the investigation is ongoing and declined to give a specific motive.

The victim was as an employee of the Beauregard Parish school system.

“The employees of the Beauregard Parish School Board are deeply saddened by the loss of a dear co-worker,” Superintendent Timothy Cooley said in a prepared statement. “Ms. Langley has faithfully served the South Beauregard community as a school support employee for the past 11 years. We offer our condolences to the family members, colleagues, and schools of the South Beauregard community.”
