Lacassine-Midland, Acadiana-SHHS highlight tonight’s girls schedule

A reporters’ roundtable about high school basketball topics, featuring staff writers Rodrick Anderson, and Warren Arceneaux

In this edition of the Three Point Shot, Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux preview tonight’s high school sports schedule.

What is the best boys basketball game on the schedule?

WA: Washington-Marion at LC College Prep has everything you need. Two crosstown rivals playing for control of the District 4-3A race. Prep narrowly missed out on upsetting the Charging Indians twice last year, but did not play well the first time around this year. This is a chance to end W-M’s run of district titles and add some momentum heading into the post-season.

RA: Leesville at Tioga. The second-ranked Wampus Cats can wrap up the District 3-4A championship tonight with a road win at No. 11 Tioga. The first match up was close, with Leesville pulling off a 49-43 win. Leesville has won 22 of its last 23 games.

What is the best girls game?

WA: Lacassine at Midland. The Cardinals are currently 10th in the power ratings, less than one point behind the eighth seed, Castor. Moving up two spots would allow Lacassine to host a second round game. Midland needs to win to secure a first-round home game.

RA: Acadiana at Sam Houston. Sam Houston can get a share of the District 3-5A championship with a win tonight, but has to be careful with LaGrange and Sulphur lurking just one game back. Sam Houston will likely return to the No. 1 ranking when the latest power rankings come out today.

Name a player to watch.

WA: The Barbe girls soccer tandem of Jillian Bech and Sydney Crowe.

The duo have combined for more than 50 goals this season, but the Bucs were shut out in both regular season games vs. Acadiana. The Bucs travel to Scott tonight for a playoff game, and Bech and Crowe will have to produce the goals if Barbe is to upset the fifth-seeded Rams.

RA: St. Louis senior forward Olivia Broussard. She followed up a 29-goal junior campaign with 44 goals this season in 23 games, nearly averaging two goals a game. She has scored three or more goals eight times this season, including five in her final regular season game. A quick goal by Broussard will be key in today’s game against upset-minded No. 21 West Feliciana.
