Dark comedy that showcases family dynamics opens 92nd season

<p class="indent">“Marvin’s Room,” the next production of Lake Charles Little Theatre, holds a mirror up to family dynamics, the challenge of care giving and the urgency to heal family ties while there is yet time.</p><p class="indent">LCLT just wrapped up “The Mountaintop,” which portrayed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his hotel room the night before his assassination.</p><p class="indent">Productions of the 92nd season of Lake Charles Little Theatre are a retrospective of times past, according to Randy Partin, LCLT president.</p><p class="indent">“‘Marvin’s Room’ directs our attention to home,” Partin said. “Family is an ever evolving dynamic that should be a priority, regardless of whether ties are biological. Life is short.”</p><p class="indent">“Marvin’s Room” will be performed Friday, Saturday and Sunday Oct. 12-28. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 2 p.m. James Johnson will direct.</p><p class="indent">“You can truly get a sense of Broadway at a Little Theatre production without having to travel to New York,” said Partin.</p><p class="indent">In November, LCLT’s “Winter Wonderettes” takes the audience to a 1960s small town hardware store Christmas Party, the challenge of finding a missing Santa and holiday hits sure to delight audiences of all ages.</p><p class="indent">Auditions for LCLT’s February 2019 production, the musical “Forever Plaid,” are Nov. 26 and 27. The show will feature four male actors/ vocalists. Auditions for “Bye Bye Birdie” are Jan. 7 and 8. It includes roles for all ages of actors/singers and dancers.</p><p class="indent">The Lake Charles Little Theatre was established by Rosa Hart in 1926. It is one of the oldest in the country and the second oldest in the state.</p><p class="indent">Ticket prices for adults are $15 to $20. Seniors, 65 and older pay $10 to $15. Students with a valid ID pay $10. Performances are at 813 Enterprise Boulevard. Members save up to 15 percent. Call (337) 433-7988.</p>
