Three teens arrested in shooting death of 34-year-old

‘Violent act stemmed from rap group’

Three teens have been arrested in the shooting death of a 34-year-old man earlier this month at the intersection of N. Goos Blvd. and Knapp Street, authorities announced at a Friday press conference.

Police Chief Shawn Caldwell, in his first press conference since being named chief in January, said “the violent act stemmed from a rap group.” Authorities said passerby found Javid Duhon, who lived on Goos Blvd., shot on March 7 around 6:15 p.m.

Duhon was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Although 13 arrest warrants were issued in conjunction with the shooting, three people were arrested as of Friday and all are from Lake Charles.

Those arrested include Solomon Tye Martin, 18, second-degree murder, with a bond of $500,000; Jamall Joseph Miller, 18, second-degree murder, $750,000 bond, and Daquan Tommie Arnaz Coleman, 19, second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, $650,000 bond.

“I’m not here to tell you all rap groups are bad, but if your child or your loved one is involved in a rap group, you need to look deeper into that,” Caldwell said. “This particular group, they are making videos saying they were going to go out and take people out.”

The chief said “they were showing guns, they had drugs. I’m telling you, look close at it. Don’t allow your loved ones to get caught up in this.”

Caldwell said investigators had worked “tirelessly” on this case and that the investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has information about the case, they should call Det. Willie Fontenot at 337-491-1456, ext. 5314 or email him at wfontenot@cityoflc.us.
