LCPD arrests, charge two local men following shooting

News Release

LAKE CHARLES — On February 2, 2019, at 4:29 AM, the Lake Charles Police Department was assigned to the 500 block of Reid Street in reference to a victim that had been shot. 

Other bystanders at the scene were not injured. The victim was taken to a local hospital after sustaining non-life threatening injuries. 

During the course of this investigation, it was determined that Trakenyvan Dejay Handy, 19, of Crowley, LA, and Keimon Dandre Leroy Brown, 21, of Lake Charles, fired numerous times at the victim that sustained injuries and the non-injured bystanders. 

At approximately 10:30 PM on February 2, 2019, Handy and Brown were arrested at 2187 Gauthier Road, Lot #429 by the LCPD SWAT team. 

The CPSO SWAT also assisted in this investigation. 

An assault rifle is among the items recovered during the course of this investigation.   

Handy was charged with 3 counts of attempted 2nd degree murder and his bond was set at $250K by Judge Sharon Wilson.    

Brown was charged with 3 counts of attempted 2nd degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and his bond was set at $275K by Judge Sharon Wilson.

This investigation continues.   

Officer Dennis Miller was the initial reporting Officer. 

Detective Larry Newingham is the lead investigator. Evidence Officer Jessica Single processed the scene. The LCPD SWAT leader is Cpl. Larry Moss.  ””
