LCCP, Leesville score impressive wins

In this edition of the Three Point Stance, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux review Week 9 of the high school football season.

Which area team had the best win?

WA: Lake Charles College Prep shut out Washington-Marion on the road to clinch the District 4-3A title outright and kept alive its chances of getting a top-four playoff seed.

RA: Leesville beat Tioga 33-23 to win its third consecutive District 3-4A and second straight outright. The Wampus Cats were No. 5 in the Class 4A power ratings before the win, .07 behind fourth-ranked Northwood-Shreveport. A win against St. Louis to close out the regular season could be enough to give Leesville a top-four seed.

Who is the large school player of the week?

WA: Barbe quarterback Luke Richard threw four touchdown passes and completed 18 of 22 passes to lead Barbe to a win over Comeaux.

RA: Sam Houston junior wide receiver Tavyen Grice caught three touchdowns in the Broncos’ 56-14 win over Lafayette. He caught six passes for 95 yards with scoring plays of 12, 11 and 9 yards and started the game with a 57-yard kickoff return that led to his first score.

Who is the small school player of the week?

WA: Kinder’s Hayes Fawcett ran for 116 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 49-15 win over Lake Arthur. Fawcett also completed 3 of 6 passes for 45 yards.

RA: Rosepine’s Seth Shirley scored five times in the Eagles’ 54-32 win over DeQuincy to take at least a share of the District 5-2A championship. Shirley scored on runs of 6, 4, 1 and 31 and caught a 6-yard touchdown. He also ran in three 2-point conversions and finished with 228 yards on 48 carries.””Three-point Stance
