Glad Tidings Church is hosting its fourth annual Car and Truck show on Saturday inside the church parking lot, 3400 Texas St.

Registration starts at 8 a.m., with the program beginning at 10 a.m. Registering a vehicle for the show is free.

Jimmy Fontenot, event coordinator, said up to 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles are expected to be on display. Last year’s event brought in 130 vehicles. Fontenot even modified a well-known line from the 1975 movie, “Jaws,” saying, “We’re gonna need a bigger parking lot.”

“We’ve been getting calls from Baton Rouge and Lafayette,” Fontenot said. “There will be everything from classic cars to new models.”

Fontenot said 75 awards will be given during the show, including the top 50 vehicles. Other awards will be given for the show’s best car and truck, along with the top three motors, exterior paint and interiors.

The event has 60 sponsors, with proceeds benefitting local veterans and their homes. Fontenot, a church member for 25 years, said he came up with the idea for the car and truck show as a way to help veterans in need.

“A lot of them need help with ramps and steps,” he said.

The event also helps those in need of the church’s food ministry.

Fontenot encouraged families to attend the show. There will be plenty of activities for children, including pony rides, train rides, fun jumps and face painting.

Musicians Elvis Soileau and the Roger and James Car Show Band will perform. All food served at the event is free.
