Driftwood LNG project remains on schedule

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Office of Energy Projects recently issued environmental schedules for 12 pending liquefied natural gas export terminal operations, including Driftwood LNG, in an attempt to try and shorten their timelines.

But Meg Gentle, president and CEO of the Houston-based Tellurian Inc., said in a statement that Driftwood “remains on schedule” to start construction in the first half of 2019 and start delivering LNG by 2023. Driftwood is building the $15 billion terminal just south of Lake Charles, and it is expected to export as much as 26 million tons of LNG annually.

Also listed in the FERC schedule was Venture Global LNG, an $8.5 billion project in Plaquemines Parish.

According to a statement released by FERC on Aug. 31, the schedules are an effort “to streamline its review process for LNG project applications.” FERC Chairman Kevin McIntyre said the improvements have cut environmental schedules by “nine to 12 months.”

“Our recent streamlining efforts will provide all LNG stakeholders additional regulatory certainty and help minimize undue administrative burdens,” he said.

Gentle said Tellurian “appreciates the thoroughness of the FERC’s review and ensuring that U.S. LNG can be produced safely and reliably.”

Driftwood ‘remains on schedule’ to start construction in the first half of 2019 and start delivering LNG by 2023.
