Donations, grant paid for July Fourth display

How much did the city spend on the July Fourth fireworks display?

City spokesman Matt Young said the July Fourth fireworks, along with the holiday displays put up in December, are funded by donations from businesses and a grant from the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“Thanks to a number of generous businesses, agencies and corporate partners, no city funds are used to pay for the fireworks displays,” Young wrote in an email.

“A cost of $23,600 has been negotiated to pay for the combined displays.”

Traffic in travel lanes has right of way

Who has the right of way, the person who is in the lane of travel or the people who are merging?

Merging traffic — whether it comprises cars entering interstates from on-ramps or cars leaving interstates on off-ramps — generally must yield the right of way to the vehicles that are already in the travel lanes.

Air conditioner used to control humidity

There is a window air-conditioning unit in the Barbe High School football field visitors concession stand that is running 24/7. What is in there that needs to be air conditioned all summer long?

“The air conditioner in the visitor side concession stand is set at a standard degree point to insure that the unit cycles on and off to control moisture within the building,” Holly Holland, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish School Board, wrote in an email.

“The lack of air flow in the locked building makes the conditioning of the air crucial to controlling potential air quality issues.”
