Hobbs named Sports Writer of the Year

Scooter Hobbs, sports editor of the American Press, was recently honored as Louisiana’s Sports Writer of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

The award, which is voted on by media in each state, was for the year 2020, but the banquet was delayed two times by the Covid 19 pandemic.

At the same time, LSU play-by-play announcer Chris Blair was named Louisiana’s Sportscaster of the Year.

The awards are chosen after each category is narrowed to three semifinalists before a final vote by peers.

It was the second time that Hobbs, who in 2018 was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, has won the award.
