Lafayette teen charged in Ernest Street fatal shooting

A Lafayette teenager has been charged in the June 22 fatal shooting of a Sulphur man in the 2700 block of Ernest Street.

Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum said officers responded to multiple gunshots fired that night and found 23-year-old Jaden Cade Weber lying in the parking lot with apparent gun shot wounds.

Weber succumbed to his injures the following day, Kirkum said.

On Thursday afternoon, police arrested 18-year-old Jemarques Malachi Chapman, listed address in Lafayette, in connection with the homicide. The arrest was made with the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office in Eunice for first-degree murder.

His bond has been set at $1 million.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Lake Charles Police Department.
