Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis Jr. to bring classic pop/soul sounds to Golden Nugget

Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., founding members of the classic 1970s group The Fifth Dimension, will present “Up, Up and Away” at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Golden Nugget Casino.

The duo will perform the group’s hits, including “Up, Up and Away,” “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In,” “Worst That Could Happen,” plus their own chart-topping songs, such as “You Don’t Have to be a Star (To Be in My Show).”

Their career spans more than 50 years, including seven Grammy Awards and multiple gold and platinum records. McCoo said the show will honor those who grew up with their music, while also catering to a new generation.

Davis said the show will feature “a lot of our history.”

“It’s going to be very informative about who we are and what we’ve done through the years,” he said.

Describing the show as a “musical fable,” McCoo said they will also share the unique experience throughout their career in music.

“We are going to perform songs they want to hear — songs that bring back wonderful memories,” she said. “In fact, we’ll be taking many of the people on a musical journey of their own history.”

Davis said concert-goers are sure to enjoy their classic pop/soul sound that still drives many current hit songs.

“The music today has been influenced by the music that has preceded it, but the only difference is you wouldn’t call them classics yet,” he said.
