Givers to headline Friday night concert

Live @ the Lakefront will kick off its three-part concert series at 6 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Civic Center’s Arcade Amphitheater.

Givers, an Afro-pop rock group birthed in Lafayette, will headline the event.

Givers has toured both domestic and international festivals with their “art rock collage” style. They have been featured on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Their percussion, ukulele, trumpet, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and synths create a unique sound that celebrates life and its probing questions, said Lauren Morris, project coordinator the for Arts Council of Southwest Louisiana.

Givers possesses a “fun, lighthearted, infectious sound that is perfect for the kick off of spring,” she said.

Opening the event will be rock bands LVVRS and Cry Baby, a Lake Area native band.

LVVRS — pronounced “lovers” — is a rock band at heart that combines elements of modern pop, alternative rock and world beats, band member River Gibson said.

The band prides itself on its live performance elements as it strives to engage with the audience and make everyone part of the show, Gibson said.

“Expect to hear a lot of our original music along with cover songs you know and love,” he said.

Cry Baby’s style is a salute to the history and traditions of rock ‘n’ roll of the 1950s and 60s.

Concert-goers will feel they’ve taken “a step into the past” as they listen and experience Cry Baby’s sound, Paul Gonsoulin, band leader, said.

“In its early form, rock ‘n’ roll is a perfect expression of freedom. The excitement, innocence and rebelliousness of this music is hard to resist and deeply needed,” he said.

Live @ the Lakefront will also feature an eclectic art market with local wares and food trucks from local favorites. Admission is free. Pets and ice chests are prohibited.
