Man pleads guilty to armed robberies in 3 states
NEW ORLEANS — A Sept. 1 sentencing date has been set for a New Orleans man whose guilty plea solved nine armed robberies in three states.
Acting U.S. Attorney Duane Evans says in a news release that 31-year-old Christopher Simms pleaded guilty in federal court last week. Prosecutors say in court records posted Monday that he robbed three fast food restaurants in New Orleans and another in nearby Kenner; general retail stores in New Orleans and the suburb of Metairie; a convenience store in Silver Creek, Mississippi; and banks in Metairie and Mobile, Alabama.
The robberies occurred last year between Jan. 12 and Feb. 8, the day Simms was arrested.
Evans says Simms could get anywhere from seven years to life for the firearms charge. Each robbery charge carries a maximum 20-year sentence.
