CARLYSS — A Monday night fire has resulted in one fatality, authorities said.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Carlyss Fire Department responded to a call at around 10 p.m. Monday at 337 Burleson Drive and found a deceased female inside the home.

The Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Carla Scarborough, 59.

Ashely Rodrigue, public information officer for the fire marshal’s office, said the fire originated near the back patio.

She said the fire was accidental and investigators suspect an unattended cigarette started it.

“The woman was known to be a heavy smoker,” she said.

Rodrigue said the fire affected the entirety of the home’s interior.

The ceiling collapsed in several places and one exterior brick wall fell as a result of the blaze, she said.

Rodrigue said it has been confirmed the home was usually occupied by a married couple. She said earlier Monday night, law enforcement responded to a domestic dispute at the residence and suggested the male resident stay elsewhere for the remainder of the evening.

Rodrigue said Scarborough would have turned 60 next month.””
