SULPHUR – According to Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats, a body found Tuesday morning, wrapped in cloth and dumped at the intersection of W. Burton Street and Stegall Road, has been identified as Steven Woodruff, 58.
Woodruff’s body was found by Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputies and SPD officers have arrested three in connection to his murder.
Coats said that shortly before midnight on Monday, Nov. 26, the SPD received a call about suspicious circumstances at a residence on Kim Street. A man told officers that when he arrived at the home, around 11 p.m., the house was in disarray and his father, Woodruff, was missing, along with Woodruff’s Ford F150.
On Tuesday, Blaine Daniel Kennedy, 21, was arrested on one count each of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, and felony theft and Clifton Bergeaux Jr., 49, of Welsh, was arrested on one count of accessory after the fact. According to SPD public information officer Mel Estess, officers arrested a third suspect Tuesday night. That suspect’s name was unavailable as of press time.
