Body of fisherman recovered from river

The body of a LeBleu Settlement man was recovered from the east fork of the Calcasieu River Monday night after he fell overboard, authorities said.

Lucas Marcantel, 24, was baiting trotlines with another man in a 15-foot aluminum boat when he fell overboard around 7:50 p.m., according to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Spokesman Adam Einck.

The Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Dive Team conducted a search. Marcantel’s body was recovered at about 10 p.m. He was not wearing a life jacket, Einck said.

The Calcasieu Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death.

LDWF is the lead agency in the investigation.
