Donald “Mac” McKinnie, 65, departed this life on Sunday, March 19, 2023, surrounded by his family at Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, La. He was born Oct. 20, 1957, to Walter Lee and Ethel Vidrine McKinnie. He worked at Citgo Petroleum until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, playing words with friends, watching sports, cooking for family and friends, road trips and listening to jazz.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mary Jane (Edwards) McKinnie of Lake Charles, La.; three children, Ashley Jade (McKinnie) Maxile of Irving, Texas, Skyler Ashton McKinnie of Houston, Texas, and Whitney Dionne McKinnie of Lake Charles, La.; siblings, Russell (Rita) Jack of DeRidder, La., Mary Alice (Vincent) Thomas of Lake Charles, La., Deborah Ann (Freddie) Dunn of Stone Mountain, Ga., Willie L (Louise) McKinnie of Saginaw, Mich., Jerry J. McKinnie, Rickie McKinnie, Eddie G. (Kay) McKinnie, Willie James McKinnie and William A. (Pauline) McKinnie, all of Whiteville, Tenn., and Tommie L. (John) Dawkins of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Micah James Aaron and Eli Uriah Aaron, both of Lake Charles, La.; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Lee McKinnie; mother, Ethel Marie Vidrine Richardson; grandfather, Hosea Vidrine; grandmothers, Fannie (Fontenot) Vidrine and Pankie McKinnie; mother-in-law, Pearl A. (Breaux) Edwards; stepfather, Rogers Richardson; one brother, Rufus E. McKinnie Sr.; and one sister, Margaret S. McKinnie.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. and funeral service at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
