Riverside Drive at West Sallier Street intersection to permanently close

Beginning Monday, March 27, Riverside Drive at its intersection with West Sallier Street will be closed permanently, creating a dead end.

This closure is to allow for a rail relocation project underway by the Port of Lake Charles and for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to construct a new bridge connecting Nelson Road to West Sallier Street.

On Jan. 15, the Lake Charles City Council unanimously authorized this permanent closure. A cul-de-sac will be constructed on Riverside Drive as part of the reconstruction of West Sallier Street. The city expects this project to get underway in the first quarter of 2024.
