District 3-3A play will offer something new for Kinder, a new member of the district after being reclassified into 3A. Defending champion Lake Charles College Prep will be hoping history repeats itself.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) will have momentum on their side as they make their Class 3A debut Thursday night when they travel to Sulphur to take on the St. Louis Catholic Saints (2-1).

The Yellow Jackets are no stranger to their new league foes, having played 16 games against other members of the district since 2013. Kinder is 6-10 in those games. Eight of the 10 losses came by eight or fewer points.

After having the season opener at Welsh canceled due to inclement weather, this year’s Kinder team lost a 44-36 shootout to Church Point and last week eked out a 14-7 win over Rosepine, scoring on a last-minute touchdown run by Jordan Pelican, who ran for 146 yards.

Pelican and James Roberts combine to average 185 rushing yards per game. They could get a heavy workload against a St. Louis defense that allowed more than 350 yards on the ground in a 51-21 loss at Vidor, Texas, last week.

The Trailblazers (1-2) will be hoping the continue their four-year string of winning at least a share of the district title. In that span the Blazers are 19-1 in district games and have won their last 13 games.

The Blazers will host South Beauregard (1-2), which is coming off a rivalry win over DeQuincy. Quarterback Jesse Shuff ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Golden Knights to a 35-21 win.

LCCP couldn’t overcome a host of turnovers in a 21-0 loss at Opelousas.

In the other district game, Jennings (0-3) visits Iowa (2-1), which was runner-up last year after losing to LCCP by one point. Both teams are looking to rebound from losses. The Bulldogs lost 21-14 to DeRidder, while Iowa lost 30-14 at Leesville.

Westlake (2-1) hosts DeRidder (2-1) in a nondistrict game.
