Jeff Davis deputy arrested on theft charges

A Jeff Davis Parish sheriff’s deputy has been placed on administrative leave without pay following his arrest Tuesday in Beauregard Parish.

Joseph Rene Soileau, 54, of Ragley, was arrested by the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office on a theft charge allegedly involving items taken from a friend’s camper.

He was released on a $1,500 bond.

Soileau was a patrol deputy for the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office where he has worked for nearly 13 years, according to Chief Deputy Chris Ivey.

He was placed on administrative leave without pay and surrendered his equipment and credentials pending further investigation, according to Ivey.

Soileau previously worked for the Beauregard and Calcasieu sheriff’s offices.
