BREAKING: Nezat defeats Koonce for Sulphur Council seat

Published 9:19 pm Saturday, June 4, 2022

Nicholas Nezat defeated Mike Koonce in the race for District 2 Sulphur City Councilman Saturday. Nezat received 287 votes. Koonce received 170.

This is the second election for the District 2 seat.

Koonce was defeated by Nezat in the March 26 election and contested the results after around 30 voters were not moved to District 2 after redistricting. Contested elections require a judgment. Judge Kendrick Guidry found the irregularities of the first election substantial and ordered a second election.
