In this edition of the Three Point Shot, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux preview Tuesday and Wednesday’s high school basketball schedule.

What is the best boys game?

RA: Iowa at Westlake. The District 4-3A slate opens with a top-10 matchup between the Rams and Yellow Jackets, who split two district games last season. Led by a pair of senior guards in Jamaal Guillory and Tylar Joseph, Westlake has won 15 consecutive games. With sophomore Desamonte Gradney running the offense, Iowa has won four in a row.

WA: Jennings at Lake Charles College Prep. The Blazers have won 7 of their last 8 games heading into the district opener and are 11-6 overall. The Bulldogs are 8-6 and feature one of the area’s top scorers in Chance Levi. Each team is led by a new head coach, LCCP’s Sean Andrus and Jennings’s Charles Larce.

Which girls’ game is the most interesting?

RA: North Vermilion at LaGrange. The Gators are the two-time defending District 4-4A games but are likely in for a defensive battle with the Patriots. LaGrange is 6-0 when holding opponents under 40 points, while North Vermilion has allowed more than 35 points once in its last six games.

WA: South Beauregard at St. Louis. The Lady Ks are off to a 16-5 start and are on a 5-game winning streak. Jaden LeBouef leads the prolific South Beauregard offense against the reigning district and state champs.

Name a player to watch.

RA: Hathaway has another young star in the making in eight grader Sienna Guidry. The guard went off for 30 points against JS Clark last week and averaged 23 points a game for the week. The Hornets will face rival Lacassine in a battle of unbeatens in District 7-B.

WA: St. Louis guard Raven Guillory has given the Saints another consistent scoring option along with all state players Myca Trail and Paris Guillory.

Raven is a long-range shooter who spaces the floor for Trail to do damage inside and Paris to attack the basket.
