Marni Dian Abernathy passed away on Nov. 7, 2021. She was 55 years old. She was born in Palmdale, Calif., to Richard and Diana Fromm and graduated from Palmdale High School. She worked as a baker, a security guard in Lake Charles, La., and a veterinary technician in Rio Rancho, N.M. She married Robert Abernathy in Rio Rancho, and moved to Socorro, N.M. Marni and Robert were blessed with two boys, Sean and Ben. In 2017, Marni was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The disease gradually robbed her of the control of her muscles. She lost the ability to walk, stand, write her name, and even breathe without assistance.  After almost five years of progression, the disease took her life. She is survived by her husband Robert Abernathy, her two sons Sean and Ben, her father Richard Fromm, her brother and his wife, Mark and Winnie Fromm, and their children, aunt and uncle Linda and Bill Sullins, and cousins John Tucker, Gary Sullins, John Schultz, and Christy Schultz. Marni was known to be sweet, kind, and patient to everyone she met. She had an open heart and loved both people and animals. She lived surrounded by pets, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and birds. She cherished her children and regarded motherhood as her highest calling. She also had an unshakable faith in God that endured even through the worst of her afflictions and she never gave up on life. A memorial is planned for Dec. 4, 2021, for details send an email to raber nat@yahoo.com. In lieu of flowers, please give generously to your local ALS Association.
