What is the most interesting game featuring a Class 5A or 4A team?

RA: Barbe at Lafayette. The Bucs have won two in a row as quarterback Will McClain and wide receiver Jamaal Levi continue to hook up for big plays. McClain will face a lot of pressure from the Lions who shutout New Iberia in the second half last week while constantly forcing quarterback Allen Hamilton to scramble.

WA: DeRidder at Leesville. The winner gets a leg up on what should be a tight race for the District 3-4A crown. The Dragons defense has allowed one touchdown over the past two weeks but faces an explosive Wampus Cats offense that have averaged 40 points per game over the past three weeks.

What is the best 3A game?

RA: Iowa at Jennings. Iowa’s defense has been solid as the Yellow Jackets have won by an average of 29.7 points. But they haven’t faced a player quite like Jennings’ Trevor Etienne, who is being looked at by several Power Five conferences. Etienne is averaging 165 rushing yards a game despite the switch to quarterback, and is flanked by Jamaric McZeal and Rejohn Zeno, who combined for 357 yards and five TDs last week.

WA: St. Louis at Lake Charles College Prep. The Saints need a win to stay in the District 4-3A race. The game offers a nice matchup between St. Louis WRs Grant Evans and Marcus Duhon against a strong Prep secondary led by Joe Ward and Curley Reed.

Name a player to watch.

RA: Iowa senior linebacker Ross Denison leads the Yellow Jackets with 60 tackles, five tackles for a loss and five sacks. Last week he blocked a pair of punts and returned one for a touchdown. Denison will be key in stopping Jennings’ split-back that averages more than 300 yards a game.

WA: LCCP linebacker Daylon Sibley. Last week Sibley made 14 tackles in a win over Westlake. This week he will face a Saints offense that scored 42 points last week. St. Louis RB James Phillips has surpassed 100 yards in both games in which he’s played.
