River Monsters hand Gumbeaux Gators first home loss

A day after scoring a season-high 10 runs, the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators couldn’t find their offense until it was too late.

The Seguin River Monsters built an early 6-run lead to beat the Gators 9-7 at McNeese State’s Joe Miller Ballpark.

The loss ended the Gators’ 3-game win streak.

The Gators’ were down 5-2 until Rashawn Galloway (Texas State) crushed a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.

The Gators’ pitching staff pitched a 3-hit shutout Tuesday, but starter Luke Courville  (St. Louis Catholic / Bossier Parish CC) struggled in the second inning, walking or hitting three consecutive batters, leading to the River Monsters’ first run. Another scored on a wild pitch, and Juan Rivera (Dodge City CC) hit a two-run single.

The River Monsters’ had some trouble on the mound of their own in the eighth inning when Hunter Williams (San Jacinto JC) gave up three runs, two on a wild pitch and balk.

The Gators’ added two more runs on back-to-back singles by Bryce Jones (McNeese St.) and Gage Trahan (Sulphur HS / McNeese St.) in the ninth inning and loaded the bases with one out.

The Gators will hit the road today to take on the Baton Rouge Rougaroux at 7 p.m.
