State Police investigating officer-involved shooting on I-10

Louisiana State Police are investigating an Iowa Police Department officer involved in a shooting last week in Calcasieu Parish.

Trooper Sgt. Ross Brennan said the officer conducted a traffic stop on May 31 on a vehicle related to a reported theft on Interstate 10 west in Iowa.

“During the stop, the driver refused to exit the vehicle and attempted to flee, initiating a pursuit,” Brennan said.

He said the pursuit proceeded westbound on I-10, stopping briefly in the 2400 block of Toomey Road in Vinton.

“While on Toomey Road, an officer discharged their firearm and struck the vehicle,” Brennan said.

The pursuit then continued eastbound on I-10 before coming to a stop in a business parking lot in the 2000 block of West Street in Vinton ,where the driver was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
