A multiple-vehicle collision on Interstate 210 Wednesday evening has left three dead.

Lake Charles Police Sgt. Larry Moss said the wreck — which happened just before 4:30 p.m. — was initiated when a red 2020 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by James Labove, 46, of Sulphur was traveling westbound on I-210 near and struck the rear of a white 2022 Volkswagen Taos, driven by Race Hindman, 34, of Lake Charles.

“After the Chevrolet Malibu struck the white Taos, it continued through the center median and impacted a black 2023 Volkswagen Taos that was eastbound on Interstate 210,” Moss said.

The 2023 Volkswagen Taos was being driven by Derrick Dupre, 39, of Sulphur. Lisa Burnworth, 38, and also of Sulphur, was a passenger in the 2023 Volkswagen Taos.

Labove succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Dupre and Burnworth both succumbed to their injuries, as a result of the crash, at a local area hospital.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Moss said.
